CARIA, Stratonicaea. Antoninus Pius, with Marcus Aurelius as Caesar. AD 138-161. Æ (35mm, 30.60 g, 5h). Athenokles, magistrate. Laureate bust of Antoninus Pius right, vis-à-vis bareheaded and draped bust of Marcus Aurelius left / Zeus Panamarus right on horse; lighted and garlanded altar to right. RPC Online –; Karl –; SNG München –; SNG von Aulock –; SNG Copenhagen –; Imhoof-Blumer, GRMK 7 = Leschhorn p. 291. VF, black-green patina with traces of olive and red, a few adjustment marks. Fine style portraits. Apparently the second known and possibly the only one not in a public collection.

The specimen Imhoof-Blumer cited was from his own collection. Because of the coin's rarity, it was probably donated to the Berlin Münzkabinett, as it does not appear in the known sales of Imhoof-Blumer's coins. The Berlin collection, however, remains unpublished, so there is no way of determining that coin's further disposition.
